BRB writing an obit for my librarian nemesis
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

40 years ago we’d have congressional hearings falsely accusing metal bands of putting backwards messages in their songs that told kids to kill themselves & now we have a planet-killing chatbot that’s all like “bet you won’t commit suicide chickenshit bitch” & the government is like here’s $5 billion

I watched about 5 minutes of the Wild game but had to turn it off after hearing Katie Storm's voice and then hearing a guy say that the Wild play in Minneapolis 😑

I especially love the section on reviewing conceptual works: "When literature is the primary source of data, it is particularly important to discuss the quality and relevance of literature that is introduced."

How can we as academic librarians expect to be taken seriously as evidence synthesis/review experts when we don't apply appropriately rigorous methodology & reporting standards in our own journals?

“authors should state when they did not synthesize the totality of the evidence (e.g., engaged in cherry-picking) or if they did not evaluate or contextualize the included literature, etc.” Love peer review of the peer review! 🔥

This is such an awesome mic drop. Also, as someone trained in qualitative methods, it’s stunning to me for any journal to not include some sort of limitations section. No single study can be extrapolated to all situations on its own (nor any analysis).
