#datavis is just something you sort of do. You have to be sort of intelligent (if you were really intelligent, you'd be doing something else). You have to make charts fairly well (if you designed really well, you’d be a designer). 1/2

On warn.pbs.org you can see that a few agencies other than NWS sent WEA level alerts, but I don't see any evacuation orders on the 3rd and 4th. Finding non-WEA alerts is trickier. You have to find the websites for each local system (both City and County).

I was going to like this but I reskeeted instead.
As a hopeless retweeter, I concur. The thing I missed most in the demise of twitter was smart people sharing good links.
My one constructive criticism on BlueSky, as a community: we need to “like” less and “retweet” more. In the absence of an algorithm, that’s the way we find each other and reward good content.

My admin take is that the actual key to success of a sm platform is natural sciences ppl because there's no other field where in one short conversation with an expert you learn 10 new things about things you thought you already knew thats as easily demonstrable in 280 characters and a couple images

I attended a meetup in Seattle and got to spend time with @bnewbold.net and @pfrazee.com from the Bluesky engineering team.
I walked away with an understanding of the role DIDs and PDSs play in the grand scheme of things, and why the most exciting work sits higher up the stack. I almost unretired.
