I keep seeing people say, oh, trans people must take a hit for the greater good and, first of all, no, you don't get to discard someone else's rights and second, we know from past experience that marginalized communities like theirs are merely the first to be targeted. They'll come for you next.

I spent some time researching the Garland Fund for my dissertation. This article (and forthcoming book) is definitely worth your time.
Political violence, post-pandemic one-party rule, vast economic inequality, and immigration backlash? The 2020s are the 1920s all over again--and that may show us a way out. Adapted from my book, to be published next week. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/06/o...

one thing i think people should ask the court conservatives given this ruling is what, specifically, was wrong with plessy?
🚨By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court UPHOLDS Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for minors, concluding that it does NOT discriminate on the basis of sex, is not subject to heightened scrutiny, and survives rational basis review. All three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.

There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

Good messaging would embrace the former and encompass the latter. I really think the Dems could more or less copy and paste from the 1944 Liberal Party Platform:

Just remarkable how much Republicans are banking on AI to do actual governing.

"If the court says you can strike digits and numbers, well now we'll have to not use digits and numbers. And the best thing about technology and AI is that, you know, in the push of a button, it can all be done."
Republicans scour for options to sidestep Tony Evers vetoes, including not using digits in the budget
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said the GOP would discuss ways to craft the budget in a way that reduces ways for Evers to use his partial veto authority.

One of the wildest things about this for me is that, historically, the meat packing industry itself pushed for government inspection. Turns out, if customers don’t think meat is safe to eat, they buy less of it. Who is this type of deregulation actually benefiting?

No one should be above the law, most especially the President.

Ignoring a Supreme Court ruling to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return isn't just cruel; it's unconstitutional.

They're saying the quiet part aloud — if they get away with it now, they'll do it to anyone.

We could all benefit from renewed attention on the Harding/Coolidge years. My dissertation research made it remarkably clear to me that “a return to normalcy” simply meant dismantling Progressive Era reforms and an embrace of robber baron kleptocracy.
104 years ago the Republican Vice President of the United States wrote a newspaper essay villifying the "The Enemies of the Republic," by whom he meant college professors and public school teachers.

Of course not exactly the same, but when Eisenhower first took the presidency and started backing the U.S. out of its commitment to the United Nations, American liberals like Eleanor Roosevelt looked to Canada to fill the void.
Sobering. Depressing. But accurate.

From @acoyne.bsky.social: "If the international order is to be preserved, then, it will have to be preserved, in part, from the United States. Certainly it will have to be rebuilt without it."
The democratic world will have to get along without America. It may even have to defend itself from it
