NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

I haven't been using instagram for a long while now (since they started serving ads), but this still feels sad.

This is genius!
To whomever it may help:

I used to travel and buy tchotchkes that then sat forgotten in a drawer. Then I only took photos—but I post my phone 😭. Now I make shadowboxes of ticket stubs and cute knickknacks that I hang on my wall. Anything that doesn’t make it into the box gets thrown away no regrets

What’s most disorienting about Careless People is that it is packaged as a history of sorts, but its real utility to the reader is as a window into our current moment, a field guide to tech autocracy.

15 yrs ago, I taught a kids’ comics class, and one of my assignments was to adapt a book into a silent comic. I did an example using a popular book. The class loved it, so I said I’d do the whole series if they worked hard. I’m disappointed by the franchise now, but I’m still fond of this comic.

The great point Ezra makes in this episode is that, if AGI is really the biggest revolution in history and is coming in the next few years, why aren't the policy discussions more urgent and detailed? Policymakers just kinda shrug and say they don't know what to do...

Tulip and Clover brand crochet hooks are my favourites. During a recent trip to Japan I realised I’ve been paying way too much for them all this while.

Clover ¥650 -> $16.90 NZD
Tulip Etimo ¥900 -> $19.50 NZD

Is NZ an anomaly? 🧶

One of the cool things I saw in Japan that I didn’t buy.

A blue Japanese dinosaur ceramic plate casually sitting next to a pile of under plates under a table in an Osaka market (hence the odd angle) 🦕

I went out of my comfort zone a bit and made this little ceramic dinosaur! It’s a sinosauropteryx, one of the few dinosaurs we actually know the color of! I just love their fluffy, red striped tails.

This little guy will be available this Friday, January 17th at 12pm Eastern!
