Good tips here. A couple of things I'd add that I've personally found helpful:
1) write down questions you have as you go
2) read the bibliography of a paper and follow up on citations that pique your interest. Usually more efficient than using Google Scholar to find relevant reading material

It's wild but I've been watching them since, well, I was in high school. This shit helped me build friendships, and kindled a love for science in alot of my peers. It's a definite recommend.
You won't believe this. My team and I make this show called SciShow that works hard to be rigorous and accurate while also being appealing and entertaining.

We reach a LOT of people every year with episodes about crabs and neutrinos and gender and cancer and vaccines.

It's great, I love it.
