It's also like not only are you not going to get bananas or coffee or whatever, but a ton of businesses with products you like will simply go under because their profit margins were too slim.

This will mean a massive wipeout of competition and centralization of the market.
The discourse around tariffs has been “things will get more expensive” but I am here to tell you that I am knee deep in reporting on this subject and I strongly suspect that if super high tariffs endure, it will shift to *certain items cease to be available at any price*

The most serious Nazi shit in this extremely Nazi shit executive order may be the idea, just slipped in there, that one of the "divisive narratives that distort our shared history" is that "race is not a biological reality but a social construct." www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...
Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered: Section 1.

It is human trafficking.
Totally agree with this. Flying a person to a third country that they may never have been to, directly into a prison where they are going to be forced to do hard labor, is not a deportation; it's something else entirely.
@washingtonpost.com They were not DEPORTED. Deported means sending them back to their country of origin. These people were sent to a maximum security prison in El Salvador, without any due process or any analysis as to whether they feared harm in El Salvador!

If you listen to that last clip of the US VP doing the rounds, it does feel like some sort of analysis showing what these people are huffing on the regular is sorely missing from mainstream commentary
This is it. You cannot explain in polite conversation that the higher echelons of US policy making are on personal terms with something called Bronze Age Pervert without yourself sounding like a maniac
I really do think part of the problem is the old bankers and ceos and plausibly sane media people are straight up too old and offline to see how degenerate and evil and insane the enemy is.

do i roll my eyes at a lot of DEI stuff? yeah, i wrote a whole essay about why i thought it was bullshit back in 2020. but trump et al aren’t saying, “corporate DEI policies mainly exist to protect corporate interests from discrimination lawsuits.” they’re saying “get the blacks out”

The NCAA is not even subject to title IX as they are not federally funded. So this is pure cowardice to single out less than ten athletes nationally. I'm not even sure how exactly they'll enforce this.
I can’t say this clearly enough: Fuck off, NCAA, and fuck off, NYT.

the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

This obituary for the award-winning costume designer of Peaky Blinders, Stephanie Collie, is a wonderful tribute to her research process and skill. It’s easy to criticise costumes in TV historical dramas, but historical inaccuracies are rarely errors, they’re often storytelling choices

thanks for your input, mr kennedy. not speaking at all to the various medical realities of this half-assed pitch, I'm really glad to we're apparently doing 25% tariffs on the significant amounts of fruit and vedge we import from Mexico and Canada, per the USDA. www.ers.usda.gov/data-product...
