Burt Reynolds was offered Garrett Breedlove in Terms of Endearment. He turned it down to do Stroker Ace.

Not much to say about Trans Day of Remembrance anymore besides “try loving and celebrating us while we are alive”

I'm going to say something that's going piss off 120% of my followers.

Two things can be true:

1. We need to have an honest conversation about trans women (and trans men) in sports.

2. RW Grifters like G*ines are horrible people who will make that talk impossible.
I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

This is cool.
50 years ago today, this photo of the Chicago press conference for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was taken.

In the background you can see Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert — in the clothes they wore in the Siskel & Ebert pilot, which was also shot that same day.

Some of the clips coming out of this conference are WILD. Like CPAC-level insane.
Jewish Federations applauds Olivia Reingold, a staff writer at Bari Weiss's Free Press, as she victory laps her (ghoulish and erroneous) reporting that some of the children Israel was starving to death and denying medical aid to in Gaza had pre-existing conditions.

This AND the people who insist that it's a rom-com [IT'S NOT & NEVER CLAIMED TO BE] but fails because it's not funny (or funny enough).
my hottest film take of the year remains that the people most hateful toward Materialists are the most likely to embody the callous mindset about modernity that the film exposes, and are simply angry because they’ve been read so thoroughly

Indefensible.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

#Hamnet is the kind of motion picture that a generation ago would sweep the Oscars, get the Seinfeld "The English Patient" treatment, then fade away as "good, not great" Awards Bait. These days, it will just skip to Step 3.

Smaller movies like DIE MY LOVE (which rules) are trying to 1) take advantage of the lack of big studio releases and 2) not get buried by Wicked Part Deux at Thanksgiving.

To say it's not working is an understatement. People don't actually like movies. They like things they already like AS MOVIES.
One unacknowledged story of this fall's awful box office might be that every star seems to have decided to do their "This one's for me" movie at the same time. There is, honestly, no universe or financial environment in which Die My Love--one among many examples--would ever have made real money. >
