Smaller movies like DIE MY LOVE (which rules) are trying to 1) take advantage of the lack of big studio releases and 2) not get buried by Wicked Part Deux at Thanksgiving.

To say it's not working is an understatement. People don't actually like movies. They like things they already like AS MOVIES.
One unacknowledged story of this fall's awful box office might be that every star seems to have decided to do their "This one's for me" movie at the same time. There is, honestly, no universe or financial environment in which Die My Love--one among many examples--would ever have made real money. >

This.
PORN IS ART, PORN IS GOOD, PEOPLE MAKING PORN IS A SIGN OF A HEALTHY SOCIETY
There has been a noticeable reticence in left and liberal circles to voice full-throated support for pornography, even as it's become increasingly clear what the open end goals of the censorship movement are

It's November 14th & Germany still haven't qualified for the FIFA World Cup. Unless Slovakia-Northern Ireland ends in a draw, they can't today.

Negotiating with psychopaths (the PA GOP) is impossible. They are completely irrational & full-tilt MAGA.
Shapiro was never going to sniff the Presidency anyway based on a scandal from his AG days. He'll be the Dem nominee for Senate in 2030 against McCormick.

Americans pine for the 1950s & 1980s, the two decades with the least amount of societal change & the most cis, straight white influence.

Weaponised Nostalgia is a great term for this phenomenon. Selective Nostalgia is a great one, too.
Weaponised Nostalgia.

Remember the music, remember the films, remember Spangles, the Texan Bar, when crisps came in big packets and the milkman delivered fizzy pop?

If only we could go back to that.

Just forget about everything else, we don't need to root through those boxes.
Ah the 1970s.

Stagflation, three day weeks, collapsing infrastructure. Civil War in Northern Ireland. In yer face racism and bigotry everywhere. Bin strikes. Strikes in general. Blackouts. Industrial decline. Wage inequality. Dog crap everywhere. And households spent 25% of their income on food.

“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

I wrote about the "Appeasement Eight" Senate Democrats getting the party to fold to Trump in the government shutdown, and why it shows that pro-democracy Americans badly need a real opposition party, full of leaders who recognize the United States isn't a normal rule of law democracy anymore.
Democrats Have to Get Out of a Normal Democracy Mindset
By folding in the government shutdown in exchange for virtually nothing, eight Democratic senators aid Trump's authoritarian takeover rather than oppose it

Unlike most Trump shills in the media, Maria Bartiromo used to be a decent financial journalist. That Maria is long gone.
I think normal people may not know how totally unmoored Bartiromo has been during the Trump era. A brief thread.

Today the 3rd Circuit Court ordered the @post-gazette.com to restore our contract it illegally tore up 5 years ago. That’s our health care, PTO, right to a 40-hr. work week, short-term disability and so much more we’ve struck for 3+ years.

The new Senate Leader should be Amy Klobuchar. (If age weren't a factor, my #1 choice would be Patty Murray.)
As I said last night on MSNBC as the news broke that eight Senate Democrats were joining the GOP: This must be the end for Chuck Schumer as Senate Democratic leader.
