most of the time, the idea isn't even *the* idea halfway through drafting the thing because the idea has sprouted its own wings and is now telling you to go into a different direction, and all the plotting and planning has to start all over again.
the idea is not all that counts. the idea is nothing at all until it has been lassooed, corralled, mutated, shuffled, blended with other ideas, and then expressed over the medium of however many thousand words that you have selected and arranged as best you can. the idea is a promise, not a book.

You might not have caught what just happened on the Senate floor, but the Senate just “deemed as passed” the Epstein resolution.

That means as soon as it arrives from the House, it automatically passes the Senate (with no amendments) and heads to the President’s desk.

Wow.

Somewhat likewise - can't remember precisely when my exit was, unlike Scalzi's pinpoint accuracy, but in a similar manner, haven't missed the place, haven't felt the slightest twinge of an urge to go back, and am perfectly content to be here and not there...
I quit the former Twitter two years ago this week, and I am here to tell you that my online life got a lot better for having left it. In two years I've not been tempted to go back, and I haven't felt any penalty in either career or community for not being there. It's nice to be here and not there.

I feel this *in my bones*
The witch made him hot chocolate.

"They say I'm strong," he said. "And I am."

He took a sip.

"They say I can overcome any hardship."

"Mm," said the witch.

"And I can. I do."

The witch said nothing.

"But I shouldn't have to!"

"No."

The witch held the hero as he wept.

"No, you shouldn't."

Because of course he did.

Oh my. (I've had the backlash/negging thang too -it's MY FAULT that I'm not #1 on the NYT bestseller lists right now and all I have to do to fix it is pay these bottom-crawlers mucho dinero to connect to "thousands" of readers, all of whom need a "token of appreciation" in order to read my book...
Spammers attempting to convince one to use their "author services" via negging don't work when one's most recent book is a New York Times bestseller

Child marriage is heinous, but one thing I never see brought up in those discussions is that if you are under 18, you cannot file for divorce. If you are under 18 and married to an adult, they are your legal guardian and make decisions for you. That is not a partnership.
Most Minors Who Are Married Can't File for Divorce — Even if They Want To

Folks, a famous author isn't ever going to contact you out of the blue to offer you literary services. It's always a scam. Also, speaking as an at least semifamous author, you wouldn't want any services we did offer, we're just barely handling our own shit, much less anyone else's.
I've now heard from 3 authors targeted on X by a scammer impersonating Lois McMaster Bujold. Bujold impersonator refers author to "Eleanor Wood at Spectrum Literary", also an impersonation. Goal: to sell editing svcs. Scam is impersonating multiple authors & agents writerbeware.blog/2025/11/14/i...
