All anti-mask laws—even those with so called “medical exceptions”—stigmatize mask-wearing.

Fewer people wearing masks increases the spread of infectious diseases.

No matter how lawmakers try to spin it, any law that criminalizes wearing a mask endangers public health. Period.

Federal workers began receiving emails Saturday asking them to describe what they did last week — as Elon Musk warned on social media that, if employees fail to respond, it will be taken as a resignation.

If a reader dislikes your politics, then no amount of subtlety will prevent them from accusing your story of not being subtle enough. Not even if the politics of the story are about your right to live. Don’t go quieter to appease the callow.
if u see this, quote-post with your tips for writers that no one gives anymore because they seem obvious (even though they're not)

:deep breaths:
Balancing my immediate concerns for safety, as well as the collective horror and fear and knowledge that not everyone will get through this okay, is hard. All I can do is help who I can, where I can, when I can, while keeping myself afloat. I think if we all do that, it'll be enough.

What is one simple act of resistance that will absolutely infuriate any authoritarian determined to make the world ignore pandemics and climate change?

Wearing a mask.

We have decided to open to additional signatures 🧪⚒️🦑

Reboosting, as US vs Skrmetti hits the news waves again after the court rejected hearing a challenge to a Wisconsin policy regarding transgender youth. If you have not signed this yet, consider doing so. We will gladly take Canadian signatures as well!

I didn't want to attach this directly to the Cell piece, but if you are a person in STEM who wants to show support for trans scientists I am still periodically monitoring/adding new signatories to our open letter from December.
BD Voss, @jfmclaughlin92.bsky.social, @spissatella.bsky.social, Wade Boys, and myself have been working on this for a while now.

We wanted to create a short document on how anti-trans actions in the US/UK have impacted the scientific 🧪⚒️ community, and how you can help

Mount St. Helens also inspired some instrumental works. Kit Watkins, former keyboardist for Washington D.C. prog rock band "Happy the Man," included a St. Helens-themed jazz fusion tune in his 1980 solo debut.
Kit Watkins - Spring 1980 & Mount Saint Helen
Spring 1980 is a soft thematic track, Mount Saint Helen is slow but more progressiv, with a tempo change in the middle, from the Album "Labyrinth" by Kit Watkins released in 1980

Contrast these 2 types of crinoid for #InverteFest 🦑
1) Most living crinoids are stalkless filter feeders and attach to other inverts using cirri
(This pic has a bonus shrimp, Thor amboinensis 🦐)
2) Fossils, and some deep sea species, have a stalk and can crawl along the seafloor
