If you saw the Maddow story and thought to yourself, "Oh no biggie. I've never said a peep about ICE, so I don't need to worry about a surveillance company with ties to the Saudi Arabian government violating my privacy," then just wait until you hear what Aurora PD/City Council just did.

Here's the thing- there's a difference between being boxed out + making choices that result in boxing yourselves out.

For those who have been paying attention over the last several years, this isn't at all a surprise, it's just that talking about it makes people uncomfortable (and so it continues).

Bell board member Lily Griego wrote this excellent piece about the value and strength that Dreamers bring to Colorado and the need for Congress to reup #DACA. We're so fortunate to have her on our board. bit.ly/48CCbbA

Two days ago, I was reading the Pew study in the article and was going to flag it for Stephanie because I would have loved to read her take, and suddenly there it is!

Obviously, this was in the work long before two days ago but I love it when the stars align.
In some circles, a narrative has taken hold that wealthy moms are less happy and more stressed than lower-income moms. But the data tell a different story, Stephanie Murray reports:

Everyone’s gonna have to get more creative. I just hate this so much. My heart aches for the people this SNAP cut is gonna hurt.
With SNAP benefits ending for millions & the economy shrinking what little resources food banks have, I’m sharing food resource supports & educators/creators.

Congressman Crow has been at the forefront of inspections since we were first denied entry in 2019.

I have more thoughts than can fit in one post, but this is a good time to remind everyone that local leadership matters and has moved the needle in the past.

City Council elections are coming up.

They love to say they're operating on behalf of the government but unlike most of these centers that are owned by the feds & contracted out for operations, in Aurora, GEO is the registered business/owner that essentially contracts for people.

Oh, spare me the corporate theatrics.

King Soopers is owned by Kroger, which is headquartered out of state.

According to OpenSecrets, Kroger spent $1.6 million on lobbying in 2024.

The lobbyist they have on record is based in DC.

I really need everyone posting about Kroger's commitment to DEI to include a blurb about their AI/dynamic pricing strategy based on customer demographics because I'd argue that with everything we know about AI's implementation, that commitment isn't super solid or guaranteed.
