Just a few fireflies in Smoky Mountain National Park, TN. These are synchronous fireflies and the males flash their lanterns in bursts of light that look like waves through the forest. Then they all go dark at once, watching for females to flash back. #ArtAdventCalendar

The Bleeding Tooth fungus (Hydnellum peckii) has both teeth on its underside and "blood" on its top!
The "blood" is extracellular fluid, which is squeezed out when the fungus absorbs water, increasing pressure until the red fluid is squeezed out!

This was my first large embroidery project. It actually took me a couple years to finish. I dreamed of this house, and the dream of it has kept me going. Designed and stitched by me. I am really proud of this piece despite the many times I put it down I still finished it.

I made this in tribute to the medieval Unicorn Tapestries. In the final tapestry the unicorn is imprisoned under a pomegranate tree that is dripping. I imagined if she escaped, she would want to destroy the tree and its fruits!
