On Trump, autism and tylenol:

A student I was talking to today had it exactly right on this latest White House bullshit claim

“It’s at the perfect intersection of hating disabled people and wanting women to be in pain”

There’s not only no link, the claim is both ableist and misogynist.

Todays the day!

This morning I am taking part in a panel for the @nhsemployers.bsky.social Disability Summit on 'Exploring Neurodiversity'; contributing my thoughts as Chair of @dptnhs.bsky.social Neurodivergent Staff Network.

Here's some comments from our network members this #neurodiversityweek

A year of waiting, of preparation, of form filling, anxiety & most crucially supporting a (not so) little boy with a lack of sufficient support at school. And the LA decided to concede 3 hours before tribunal - they could have done that 12 months ago but no....this is the issue with the SEND system!

If I reveal to you that I am in fact autistic

And your response is "but you seem cool/awesome/normal"
Just know that, mentally,

I'm hitting you with a shoe

So the government is adopting the language of critical/anti-psychs with their “we are all a bit autistic/ADHD etc” language.
This is not simply minimising the impact of neurodevelopmental conditions, it is erasing the importance of diagnosis in order to cut services.
The DFE are trying to discredit autism diagnosis. ‘we are all a little bit autistic’ from Susan Acland-Hood This is what happens when a government wants to cut social services, education budgets and benefits . Short term accounting- the cost is too high to provide for ‘these’ people .

I’ve been waiting for people to move off X/Twitter. I was heavily invested in Twitter as a place of community and digital sociology since the days of Ferguson. Bluesky is now that place.

Here are some Bluesky Starter Packs. These will help you build back community.

"For autism research to be of maximum benefit to autistic people it should at least be participatory but ideally it should be autistic-led, as research led by autistics will almost always have the potential to be emancipatory (...)" (Chown et al., 2023). More info 👇 autidacts.org/en/pg-ref/720
