I had a relative compelled into service to the enemy. He mistranslated all the manuals for captured equipment so that The Thing Don't Work.

a key take away from reading a lot of history for me:
the people who survive hard times and eventually brutally humiliate their seemingly invincible enemies are not the people whose first response to adversity is “oh well, guess I’ll die”

I miss my 20s. This life did actually exist. We were all broke all the time, but we also all took care of each other. Whoever had money on any particular day paid. We all had keys to each others' apartments. I miss it, but I know that's gone now.
wish my life was like a 90's movie where all my friends work in record stores and bookshops and coffee shops and we see really cool bands in small little clubs and get breakfast together and like hang out on roofs and shit

I deleted my Facebook account in 2009 and it’s had no negative impact on my life. I have since then also refused to use any Facebook products, also with no impact on my life. Sometimes people outside of the US briefly get annoyed I don’t have WhatsApp, but we always figure it out.
