a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

I wish they said explicitly that there's $5 billion in emergency reserves they're refusing to use instead they're happy to let people - mostly children, the disabled, and elderly, starve.

Food aid has never been cut off during a shut down.

Secretary Rollins is refusing to use USDA emergency funds for SNAP.

She was also the one who said no amnesty for farm workers because all the “able bodied” Medicaid recipients can do their jobs.

They want us sick, hungry, scared & poor.
Exclusive: USDA says it won't use emergency funds for food stamps
States also won't be reimbursed if they cover SNAP expenses on their own, the memo says.

FYI, Greystar +other corporate landlords are trying to distract from the real story: their recent settlement in a class action lawsuit that alleged they conspired to inflate rental prices using RealPage software.

The 'rental fraud' claims come out like clockwork after every corporate landlord L

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.
The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes people who were held for days without a lawyer. And near...

They do not have enough popular support.

So they are trying to outlaw / silence opposition.

And that’s where we are.

Pushing back has never mattered more.

While the EO on "antifa" does not have the force of law, it does provide an opening for local law enforcement -- who have banded together in their dislike of any reform or critique -- to harass, prosecute, and jail people they do not like, namely anyone who tries to hold them accountable.

Just as an aside on this: I understand Antifa isn’t an organisation and it seems like Stupid Trump. But I feel the next step will be for the regime to define who or what is Antifa. The parameters are specifically vague so anyone Trump doesn’t like can be branded a terrorist.

In case you didn’t know, journalist Mario Guevara has been in ICE custody since June. The specific reason?

They claim Guevara “presents a danger to the community because he films and records [police] activities and shares his reporting with the public.”
