Ah yes, pausing necessary and crucial cancer research trials is the perfect way to “Make America Healthy Again”…..
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is a major NIH-supported hospital and research center in Seattle.

And NIH funds many essential clinical trials that cannot be supported by the private sector. This is devastating.
An oncology nurse told me yesterday that NIH supported (but not pharma supported) clinical trials have been paused at Fred Hutch 😢

Donate donate donate y'all! Sites need money for required permits, toilettes, insurance etc.

US science is in grave danger from federal actions. No one is coming to save science unless we make some real noise!

It is up to us.

Speak up by donating. Speak up by rallying. Speak up by walking out.

@tdverstynen.bsky.social I am one of the applicants for PSN at CMU this year. Thank you so much for the email confirmation regarding the admissions process given everything that’s going on. It’s feels really good to have clear communication from universities regarding these processes

Did you know: a major function of NIH is to work with external scientists to bridge the translation gap and bring early therapies to patients. Most scientists don’t have the skills to do this themselves; NIH does. That’s the center they’re attacking right now does abcnews.go.com/amp/Politics...

As I have been seeing so many people finding the courage to stand up and pushback against this assault on what makes our country great, I keep coming back to the Emerson quote “When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.”

There’s a universe of stars around us. Be one yourself.

This is because people got mad and held people at NIH responsible for their actions...stay angry, pick every battle.
We @chronicle.com reported on Friday that applications for F31 diversity fellowships had been withdrawn.

Now, multiple scholars tell me their applications have been re-assigned to their original study sections, in a reversal of instructions NIH officials gave reviewers last week. #AcademicSky

The sudden withdrawal affects early-career scholars who applied for a prestigious federal grant with a diversity notation — flagging that they came from underrepresented backgrounds.

Penn State has halted submission and *acceptance* of NIH grants pending the resolution of the overhead rate cut.

This lost time will never be recovered. The economic cost to Pennsylvania is enormous and the cost to humanity immeasurable.

As a recent science graduate and hopeful future graduate student, what are some good science outreach/involvement I can get involved in? The state of science in the US is really bumming me out, and I want to find some ways to make meaningful impacts #science #neuroscience 🧪

New paper from the Kirby lab! TLDR summary: adult hippocampal neural stem cells make VEGF and that VEGF suppresses neuronal excitability in the dentate gyrus to improve spatial memory and reduce damage from seizures.

Check out this awesome paper by the Kirby Lab! It’s the first academic article I’ve contributed to in my Neuro career! It was also the first time I was able to patch granule cells in the DG.
