Lesser known on this day is the powerful 975 mb storm making landfall in Oregon in this satellite image that brought hurricane-like pressure tendencies/winds to the coast and 70+ mph gusts inland. The Fitzgerald storm was not the only tempest in the US this day.

I don’t think it’s quite sunk in how crazy a storm holding for a day at 910 mb (or lower) in the Atlantic basin really is.

Strong winds in the Puget Sound area also supported by a 10-12 mb SEA-PDX gradient per SPC mesoanalysis and a leeside (of the Olympics) trough enhancing said gradient. Common feature in Pacific NW windstorms for W #wawx.
