I made a thing! @wndr.chat is the chat log for a spaceship on an interstellar journey. There is a semblance of a plot that plays out over a year but it's mostly, for lack of a better term, NPC chatter to interrupt the doom scrolling.

This is like a reverse version of xkcd.com/538/. Once you get to a certain level of wealth and power, you realize you can just brute force your problems.

The fact that there's no built-in way to search for labelers on Bluesky is a travesty.

Video game idea: You are a raccoon on a spaceship. You have no idea how you got there, but there is a crazy AI giving you missions. You can help the AI take over the ship, but you can also just do raccoon stuff and steal people's space trash.

Basically, System Shock meets Untitled Goose Game

This is incidentally my take on Slack.

Well, that and notifications. I don't need an AI summary of my notifications. I just want more granular control over when I get notified.
if microsoft just made outlook search not suck they'd see triple the productivity gains of any AI integration

Your numbers depict the topology of possibility, not probability. Each ship, each captain, each intelligence must still trust the other. For even if you have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries, without charity, we are but blind, moving through a forest darkly.

Facet spam is apparently a thing! My preferred "solution" for this would be to just show the hidden mention rather than hide the messages altogether.

There are streets in my neighborhood that, as a pedestrian, I always thought of as flat. They look flat. Now that I cycle them, I'm very aware of which direction their 1 to 2% grades go.
Something that is always funny to me is how a slope that is pleasant to ride but still very much a uphill (3%) is almost indistinguishable from flat on graph paper.

And a slope that is *incredibly* challenging to climb on a bicycle (20%) looks like something that would be no big deal.

It's awards season! I have two short stories I'm most proud of this year.

If you only read one thing of mine, make it "Laser Eyes Ain't Everything", a piece Locus called a "sharp satire" which should give you lols and catharsis. www.diabolicalplots.com/dp-fiction-1...

I’m quoted in an article about AI hallucinating cases. There is a way to fix this, and it’s to have a list of every case so that you can automatically check briefs for bad citations.

Right now, that’s impossible because Westlaw is the one creating the citations and they don’t share them. 1/

I haven't watched Pluribus yet, but is this what they mean by "The most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness"?
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.
