Voting Blue since the 1970s. Focused interest on US Defense and Military Policy. Former Senate staffer back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Proudly Antifa. Still actively engaged in the practice of law in in an AM LAW 200 law firm so limited personal info

For over 300 years now, it is a bedrock principle in Anglo-American constitutionalism that obedience is owed according only to law. Refusal to follow an illegal command is not only a moral choice but an absolute duty.

International tribunals have even held that a soldier must disobey an unlawful order even under threat of summary execution

Bosnian Croat commander of the Bosnian Serb Army Dražen Ersemović participated in the Srebenica Massacre after being told that he’d be summarily executed if he did not participate in the killings, and the Int’l Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia found duress mitigating but not exculpating

Grifting to the end
Marjorie Taylor Greene’s star power was “tied to—and as it turned out, was completely dependent on—her fervent support for Donald Trump,” @russellberman.bsky.social and @toluseo.bsky.social argue. Without the president, “her power within the GOP was gone.”
Why Marjorie Taylor Greene Needed Donald Trump
Without him, she’s just one of 435 House members.

I support this bill and the renaming.
Republicans have a bill to deport immigrants who attack dogs. Goldman moves to have it renamed to: The Kristi Noem Canine Relief Act

Trump has ordered a massive military buildup in the Caribbean.

After months of lethal strikes at sea, Trump is threatening to expand this illegal unauthorized war to Venezuela.

We don’t need another war. We need health care for all.

So with the senate bill passed we now get to see how much of this rebrand is an act or if she has changed at all.
Marjorie Taylor Greene on the The View: "I hope that Mike Johnson is finally giving a single healthcare policy, because the country deserves it. And it shouldn't be a secret. I shouldn't have to go into a SCIF to find out Republican health insurance plan."

Voters want a Democratic Party that fights back against the forces that have rigged the system and made their lives more difficult.

A party that comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable —not a party that buckles and capitulates.

When will party leadership learn this lesson?

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

It’s okay because the Republicans promised to hold this exact same vote in a month
UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.
