As my daughter says in light of these tariffs, “Trump is as dumb as a box of rocks”, but Marc’s analysis is the lens through which all of Trump’s actions should be viewed. I hope it gets more traction in public discourse.
The purpose of these tariffs is to be able to lift them to those who bow down to him and sacrifice their dignity. That is what he did to the GOP, the billionaires, and is doing now to Big Law. Those who stand up will be punished, those who bend a knee and humiliate themselves will be rewarded.

It takes no imagination to consider how Trump would use the new authority he'd get from the House GOP slush fund bill to threaten and bully states across the country—you do what he says or he blows up your entire state budget. I will vote NO.

As a former Hill staffer, some advice: you need a good ASK. MoCs want constituents to feel heard but don't want to do anything new. Bad asks are vague, not time-bound, not verifiable. "Support human rights!" "Oppose Trump!" The Member will say they agree with you and do nothing. Here's a good ask:
