Hospital colleague said to me she doesn't feel equipped for the increasing psychological distress that patients are bringing. I know she's highly skilled & caring, but just so stretched & overwhelmed. The solution here isn’t more training, but some regular space to pause, reflect, & feel supported.

Last night I heard Arooj Aftab perform at Belfast Cathedral and she was enchanting. I'd 100% recommend if you can get to any of these.

Brilliant thread on public domain image resources.
You don't need uncanny valley AI slop!
This is your periodic reminder that giant piles of free art are available for use in your next TTRPG or board game project, including commercial use.

Iris Murdoch "Most of the time we fail to see the big wide real world at all because we are blinded by obsession, anxiety, envy, resentment, fear. We make a small personal world in which we remain enclosed. Great art is liberating, it enables us to see and take pleasure in what is not ourselves."
See the light pour through: how art can free us from the exhaustion of smartphone addiction
As tech giants hook us into endless scrolling, we are becoming less engaged, less creative, less connected, less human. Art reminds us to look outwards at the things that truly matter

Something that always stays with me from training, 20yrs on is-

"if you leave someone feeling a bit more valued, a bit more heard, a bit more hopeful, if you uphold a person's dignity- then it's time well spent."

This is foundational. Even in the most complex situations, this simple guide applies.

I would like to clarify that art is not a luxury. Purchasing art is a luxury, yes, but art as an act of creation is not. I need you to hear me when I say, art is something anyone can do. Anyone. It is instinctual. Capitalism is new, but art is ancient, it's in our blood.

I have an old little caravan in the garden, my 'room of ones own' which I use for reading, writing, painting and just being. I finished the underlayer of this. Now it is time for a quick nap, feeling the heat of the sun and listening to the birds singing. #tinyjoys

Was it Arendt who said something like “the death of human empathy is one of the earliest and most telling signs of a culture on the verge of descending into barbarism”?
Musk states "the fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy". Charles Darwin, who actually researched this stuff, showed it was empathy, specifically, that enabled humanity to flourish.

So lovely…& yet how discordant w/vast majority of Christian parenting resources that instead underscore God-like parental authority/vision or expectations for unquestioning compliance from children!
The way we refer to children matters a great deal & reveals quite a lot about underlying beliefs. 1/2
