As Aveta notes, Bridges is still alive. 71. That’s not even all that old

I’ve been thinking about things like this, not just stuff that happened in my lifetime like Obergefell but all the civil rights advances in the last 60-70 years, and it’s like this is all so *recent*, it feels so precarious
Happy birthday to Ruby Bridges, who is the reason I was even able to pursue proper, fair higher education. What she had to endure as the first Black child to integrate schools was unimaginable. I will forever be grateful. ♥️

Agree. He has an audience as well. His countrymen don’t want to see their President groveling before a Putin lackey. Their determination is grounded in their national pride. Zelensky powerfully vindicated that today. To see your President stand up to the two greatest powers in the world? Priceless.

No, but seriously, it is amazing how obvious it all becomes when instead of trying to placate a bully, you confront them instead.

If you're freaked out, say "I'm freaking out." If you're scared, say "I'm scared." But quit with this "We're all doomed" shit. One of these is expressing your feelings and the other is telling everyone we should just give up now and no.

Great article about the skyways!! Thank you for seeing the benefits of the system.
Minneapolis’ Skyway System Deserves Another Look: https://streets.mn/2025/02/26/minneapolis-skyway-system-deserves-another-look/

Though the skyway system has plenty of critics, its unique and often underrated qualities make it a signature of the city worth celebrating.

I'm starting to think we need to be talking to local and state officials about having emergency foreclosure and eviction moratoriums ready to go.

If (when) they move on the FDIC, I think we are looking at mass bankruptcy and a big residential property land grab by the oligarchs.

Good morning.
I passed by federal workers & Washingtonians — significant crossover — protesting DOGE outside of the Department of Health and human Services in Washington.
I heard them singing from blocks away.
I never tire of seeing my fellow Americans exercise our First Amendment rights in these civic spaces.

once again, there is no level of appeasement that you can do to assuage these people

no matter how flattering your coverage, they are an existential threat so long as you are not an explicit propaganda outlet

report on them like they’re coming for your business, because they are
New — USDA sent an email yesterday to employees in its procurement office instructing them to immediately stop credit card payments to Politico, Axios and Reuters for department subscriptions to those outlets.

No reason was given in the email, a copy of which was provided to me.

I wish Dems + the left would push harder on the VERY LOGIC that undergirds the DOGE project.

*Why* do we need to kill jobs and replace them with shitty automated systems? Why? We *know* why the GOP wants to do it, they oppose 'big government' etc etc—but most Americans are against killing jobs.
DOGE is accessing vast troves of data, shutting down gov websites, and promising to replace countless jobs with an "AI-first" strategy.

There's a reason Musk is aiming to automate the government—it's all about concentrating power and exercising control.

This is the kind of action we need to make the constitutional crisis visible. Saying no instead of complying makes headlines because it creates conflict—and conflict drives coverage. Even if Musk gets into the classified systems, this pushes his crime spree onto the front pages.
