is this funny or is it because I’m very physically ill

there are surprisingly few Pokémon with names like Algernon
working on a heartbreaking Pokémon story tentatively called “Flowers for Dragalge,” narrated by a Charmander who takes an experimental medicine that evolves it all the way to Charizard before failing and devolving back to Charmander again

just submitted my choices for the first show I've ever juried.

it's an honor to get to do it, and to see the work people have submitted, and I thought about each piece seriously and how it related to the theme, but I feel bad about each piece I didn't pick because I am soft inside.

This is definitely not my child repeating something I say a lot.

INT. LIVING ROOM
Jean: Why aren’t you wearing clothes

7yo: BECOME UNGOVERNABLE! Clothes are governable.

11yo: Look what this era has brought us.

My neighbors just up the street from us own A-squared pizza in Charlottesville, and their youngest was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

Their family is really nice, and this is a huge bummer right before the holidays. A GoFundMe has been set up for the family to help with everything.

link only, because the art's got an explicit tag in defiance of reason.

The Neon Church #14, "Yourself," a story about thankless jobs, alienation, depression, parasitizing loneliness, practicing sounding like the old you, and none of it is metaphorical.

Tomorrow marks the start of MI's firearm deer season (Nov. 15-30), one of our state’s most cherished traditions. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or heading to camp for the first time, I wish everyone a safe and successful season. Good luck and stay safe out there! 🧡

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Had an odd moment of connection just now. I had to cobble something together, and out of a sea of blog posts the one that was most useful was written by someone that lives here in my town.

It’s a coincidence. But there would have been nothing, if a person hadn’t written it.

“Should I Use Generative AI in my Teaching?” A flow chart. (Spoiler: the answer is probably no, because teaching relies on human connection and there are almost always better strategies that will lead to a deeper learning experience for students than using AI in the classroom or to prep materials.)

20th college reunion this weekend. It was small, which I expected, I’d only known one person when we were in school. I was the only English major there, the only artist.

One person said “Are you using your degree?”

The rest, “I wish I’d let myself take art and lit and philosophy back then.”

Sat next to my 6yo and drew after picking him up from school. Been a long time since I drew anything so I picked something simple to shake the dust off. It was really great to draw with him.

“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.” Kurt Vonnegut, MOTHER NIGHT
All these people are saying “wait to you think he’s REALLY a Nazi,” and my response is “no I think it’s more likely he’s an irony-poisoned edgelord douchebro, another group that’s absolutely ruining the fucking country.”
