We don’t photograph presidents on backlots. It’s easier to count exports at the port than creative IP traveling in the cloud. And we still don’t build trade policy or workforce strategy around screenwriters, set designers, or VFX supervisors—despite their global economic footprint.

I was barely off the bus from Arkansas when I arrived at the Anderson School. Ed Leamer was kind and generous, but it wasn’t until I was later assigned his work that I fully grasped his impact. I’m eternally grateful for his humanity toward a kid in his twenties who had no idea what he was doing.
