Good morning. A reminder that historically when the US has wanted to punish other countries, it imposed sanctions on them, cutting their people off from global trade, hoping to create enough economic havoc that they rein in their leaders.

Over the weekend, the @wsj.com reported that the Administration was considering a 20% broad tariff for its April 2 announcement.

A 20% tariff would...

• if combined with this year's other tariffs, raise the effective US tariff rate to 33%, the highest since 1872.

I was barely off the bus from Arkansas when I arrived at the Anderson School. Ed Leamer was kind and generous, but it wasn’t until I was later assigned his work that I fully grasped his impact. I’m eternally grateful for his humanity toward a kid in his twenties who had no idea what he was doing.
