Trump administration cuts to NSF will result in more than 200,000 FEWER people per year involved in basic science, training, and education - what should have been the next generation of US scientists. This isn't even eating your seed corn, it is setting your seed corn on fire and salting the earth.

I was invited to an executive office convening Dec 2024. My joke then was one last visit before they painted it gold...

Trump to Carney: "You see the new and improved Oval Office. As it becomes more and more beautiful with love and 24 karat gold. That always helps too."

America was founded on the basic protection against unlawful imprisonment.

Due process is a fundamental right in our constitution.

Denying it or defending those who deny it is unamerican and illegal.
Van Hollen: "This case is not only about one man, as important as that is. It is about protecting fundamental freedoms and the fundamental principle in the Constitution for due process that protects everyone who resides in America."

its crazy watching the president openly brag about using the presidency to extort law firms into working pro bono on the post-presidency legal defense he thinks he'll need when he's out of office
Trump brags about his shakedown of major law firms: "We have a lot of law firms that have paid me a lot of money... they paid $100m on average... hopefully I won't need that many legal fees. I may. Who knows? After it ends. After I leave maybe I'll need it, but if I do it won't be very pleasant."

Just heard from the U of M about the impacts of Trump/Musk’s funding cuts to health research.

They painted a grim picture — cutting off funding designed to help unlock new cures and treatments that save lives.

Republicans need to grow a spine and stand up to this.

one of the things that drive me crazy about the defense of impoundment is that it is in such obvious bad faith. like, of course congressional appropriations are directives! why would congress have oversight powers if the constitutional expectation was that appropriations were advisory?
One thing that’s difficult to get people to really grasp is that impoundment is both lawless and actively undermines the basis of democracy. It’s one of those areas where rule of law and democracy are extremely closely aligned, the only area where it’s closer would be election law itself.
