A rainy day tsundere porcupine who mostly writes fantasy, horror, and romance. Sometimes all three at once. I have a little poetry, non-fiction, and sci-fi on the side. I'm usually down for a writing challenge and enjoy talking about books.

Shieldwalls are awesome.
Regularly check in with loved ones to make sure they're perhaps in need of a shieldwall.

Have a deal with a local store to get Love at the End of All Things in for the holidays. They wanted the fact that it was set in Michigan to be more prominent on the cover, so I contacted Jeffrey Kosh about making a new one.

I had the chance to visit France and trace the steps of my Character Deirdre. I stayed in one of the hotels she visited, tried the food at the bakery 2 doors down, and got to catch a play at the Palais Garnier! The reality is this: pictures on the Internet don't give you the fine details.

Got to checkout the Bed and Breakfast that replaced The Royal Treat Tea Room. It was only a half hour away, so not as far as I thought. It was gorgeous! A lot of the knickknacks and tea cups came over from the old shop. Might still get to do a book signing with them!

Slow primordial Lovecraftian being
My partner got weirded out by how much my new calathea plant wiggles during the day, so of course I had to capture an 11 hour timelapse of it wiggling.

Ancient philosophers set empathy as a lofty ideal to reach for. They had it right.
Empathy, can you imagine not having it?

For contrast, here is a Mountain Bluebird. Look at those vibrant blues! None of the sunrise tones on the chest and belly of the Eastern variety. Lovely isn't it?
An early-returning species to northern Colorado, the Mountain Bluebird (Sialia currucoides) is remarkably hardy while being distinctive and beautiful. This male was at 7,200 ft but they are also known to breed in areas above treeline, about 12,000 ft. #birds #birdsoftheworld #evergreen #bluebird

Hi. I could use some help. I need to transition my Word documents to a program I can just use on my desktop/laptop. Prefer a one-time fee type of application that is user friendly or a free one. Suggestions? Is LibreOffice good or is Scrivener a better way to go? Something else entirely?

I am quite excited by this news! This is the second good bird news of the day. <3 The first was of the sighting of the Galapagos Rail thought to be extinct.

This does not bode well for one of our National Wildlife Refuges.

Scientists have identified an astonishing 18 million tons of lithium buried beneath the murky waters of the state’s largest lake. Extracting this resource comes with challenges from environmental risks to geopolitical considerations.
US hits lithium jackpot: 18M tons worth $540B found underground
With 18 million tons of lithium found under the Salton Sea, the US could dominate the battery industry. But extracting it won’t be easy.

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

I had heard that Word was going to stop being available on desktops and laptops come May, but I didn't know the update today would kill my use of Excel. That really killed my productivity today. Managed to use it on my defunct Windows 8 computer.

A little video from the creator of the children's book "Don't Stick Your Toes In Your Nose". The art in this book is very cute and fills the page, making it feel larger-than-life.

Hey I guess it's Saturday so I should mention that I write books. Yes, indeed! Surprising, I know. If you want to get some, you can find them online or order them at your local book store. If you need gentler reads, A Keen Mind and A Phantom Song is it. For heavier fantasy try Paladin's Honor.

This is what incompetence and stupidity looks like. As one commenter said, "Good luck to meteorologists trying to describe clouds since they banned the use of words describing colors." Oh, and you can't memo that you are out of a specific ink. This is going to suck.
