This summer, I took myself to the beach for two days & wrote a letter to my fellow educators about “AI.”

My mom asked to read it; I told her, “Not yet. Let me get another draft done.”

Welp.

I should have let her read the first draft because she’s not here to read this one.
“Human Beings! Human Beings!” An Open Letter to Educators on the Dangers of AI
A high school teacher and Rethinking Schools editor denounces AI as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

A lot of people forget how in 2004 the Bush regime kidnapped the democratically elected President of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and dumped him in Africa.
Is there any modern precedent for abducting a head of state?

Plenty of examples of coups, assassinations and domestic trials, including show trials, but this is like a Crusader Kings plot.

I didn't realize how much my Twotter enjoyment was based on reading good replies to posts until Elon ruined it. could find great jokes and/or good educational info from experts. then it basically disappeared overnight

I still maintain the single worst change Elon made in terms of pure user experience was updating replies to favor the people willing to pay for the blue checks

instantly - overnight - reply sections changed from a font of creative riffing to a barren wasteland of the worst posts imaginable
I left twitter a year ago and I wish I could say it was for moral reasons but it was mostly because it just stopped working and it felt like there were more real people here despite the smaller user base

AI can't apologize because AI does not have emotions therefore it cannot regret anything. It's important not to humanize AI and to recognize the humans behind the AI are the ones who are writing code and programs to allow AI to generate these types of explicit images.

If you know a high school student interested in language and/or puzzles, tell 'em about the linguistics olympiads, there are lots of national versions in many countries plus an international competition!
The International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) is an annual international competition that brings together secondary school students and experts from various fields of linguistics.

Finallyyyy reading this beauty today! Had it since release day and now I have time to give it my complete attention ❣️

The world being a shit show this year really helped me develop better reading habits. I used to be a voracious reader then I just kind of stopped a few years ago. I read 47 books this year and 8 last year. I read some really good ones this year.

Still might squeeze in one or two before the New Year
