I really really really want to like Modern right now, but I just don't. The play patterns are consistently terrible and I should probably be switching decks, but can't afford to build anything new.

The comp Magic player obsession with (monetary) value is understandable, but it's kinda depressing when everything is made to be all about EV all the time.
It's refreshing to see friends who play other games road trip in groups for piss all prizing because the events are *fun*

I'm definitely not *quitting* Magic. But I will likely disengage from it a lot. The thought of giving up on trying to keep up and maintain any selection of meta-relevant decks or a collection of format staples feels like a huge relief.

The Avatar cards actually look really really cool. That's the sad thing, I could well enjoy Universes Beyond in some measure, if all the other symptoms of endless corporate greed were not so devastating to the accessibility and enjoyment of Magic 🤕

As we cycle through decks so quickly through all the new standard sets I think supporting pioneer as a space for players to keep their old standard decks but upgrade them with stronger tools is really important

I've accepted that a LOT of Magic isn't for me anymore. The mantra of "This isn't for you, and it's okay." is valid and correct, and helps ease the FOMO.
However, it's hard to feel connected to the game when I have to repeat that mantra most of the time.
At some point, "most" might become "all".

Went to another Flesh And Blood Armory, this time in my soon-to-be new hometown of Oulu😊 I'm so excited to see there's a really passionate and welcoming community, events are firing and people get together to hang out and play for fun.

There's a bubbling cauldron of negativity that is usually kept calm by adding enough good ingredients to keep the soup at a simmer, but when many things happen at once and don't feel properly addressed, it boils over.
The vibes are bad because we don't have any indicators of good change.

While there IS extra negativity spread by creators because negative content performs the best, I think at it's core the MTG frustration is REAL.
And saying "not everything is for you" is training players to actively disengage from the brand.

i don't feel like magic set surveys usually have this question and i don't appreciate the implication that content creators, who do so so much for the game, are possibly to blame for a bad set's poor performance. 👎
