Swear to god, ICE could just announce they're leaving a city but not leave and the media will just stop covering that city completely even though ICE never left.

It's what ICE and the media did with LA and they're doing it with Minneapolis too

I’m not sure we’ve properly addressed how profoundly disturbing it is that America can largely shrug at the stashing of human beings in giant warehouses.

I'll see random Dutch in the wild, start parsing it like it's weirdly written Afrikaans and then I start to struggle then I realise it's Dutch.

Today we have US transit data for all of 2025, & DC's WMATA was officially the fastest-growing major US agency, with ridership up 8.7%!

The LIRR (NY, 6.4%), King County Metro (Seattle, +6.5%) & SEPTA (Philly, +4.7%) performed well, while LA Metro & NJTransit lost riders🧵

Venezuela's bondholders naturally not so keen on the Iraq 'wipe out the creditors' analogy. Keener on the 'oil production comeback' part of the Iraq analogy, oddly enough www.ft.com/content/8736...

Thinking about this for most of the night, I don't think normal people realise Banerjee & Duflo leaving MIT is Bad-Bunny-level academic news.

I am delighted to share that Nobel laureates Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee will join our Department of Economics @econ.uzh.ch at the University of Zurich on July 1, 2026, as Lemann Foundation Professors of Economics.

Blue cities should tear up the roads in front of ICE facilities and then start decades of community engagement and input sessions to rebuild them. Let's harness our core competencies.

Amtrak is trying to add more rail cars to its new Mardi Gras rail service because ridership is already at double projections just a few weeks in. Maybe people in this country actually want to ride trains when they are given the option to?

The words 'fluent', 'fluid', and 'influence' come from the Latin verb 'fluere', which means "to flow".

'Fluere' and 'to flow' look very similar, so they must be etymologically related, right?

No! They're entirely unrelated.

'To flow' is related to 'pluere' (to rain) instead.

Here's how we know:

Once again, though, conspiracies are not about fact or logic. They're about providing a more attractive explanation than the actual truth.

Spent this morning on the Q train with Andrew Cuomo, who took personal responsibility for his lackluster mayoral primary bid. He vows a very different general election run, saying he'll focus on "reaching out to more young people and touching more people." www.nydailynews.com/2025/07/16/a...
