The “laboratories of undemocracy” in US states (h/t @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social) continue to show us what competitive authoritarianism will look like in the US. There will continue to be elections, but the opposition is prevented from winning through putatively legal means.
Bombshell in North Carolina: the state's GOP-dominated Court of Appeals just sided with the GOP candidate in last year's supreme court race.
Their decision would toss roughly 60,000 ballots (!) that have been counted, & likely hand the election to GOP instead of incumbent Dem Justice who won it.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

This guy has the understanding of democracy of an 11-year-old, who’s watched some videos in his social studies class in elementary school.
