I often wonder what life would have been like if CEOs had said ‘No, lets keep it at 10 times the rate of the median wage, as I want us to grow the company and society in general. What’s the point in having all that money if the society I live in is unliveable for so many?’

Feels quite wonderful cancelling #Adobe subscription after giving them money for their overpriced products for more than 10 years. Was only using Acrobat Reader for the last 5 years and even that price was a piss take.

They have been laying off workers annually since around 2011. Friend was laid off and their ‘next step’ support person (provided as part of package), that person told them not to take it personal or a sign of a poor skillset, as they were in business due to ‘IBM constantly hemorrhaging staff’
IBM too. Cutting costs, and shedding some workers, to double down on AI.

also the headcount reduction accompanied with usage enforcement by management who seriously have no idea or have even tried different LLMs nevermind cross checked the data sources citied (e.g., 6/10 went to a 404) means the internal sewage pipe is well and truly open, but hey, the stock price is up
I'll cautiously say I've noticed more skepticism about AI in the corporate world and it's mostly because people's coworkers are creating extra work for them. They don't have the vocabulary to describe it yet but it's basically the "Why should I read what you couldn't be bothered to write" thing

unsavoury government shit aside, do people even know that the KSA has a fantastic homegrown comedy scene? I attended the first ever Saudi comedy show in London, organised due to a strong fan base and demand, not due to its gov. plenty of shows & films accessible on Netflix, not just via YT funnel
The Saudis didn’t pay big money for famous American comedians because they were super eager for comedy, they paid for PR like this.
