next month i’m flying to see my dad and want to bring my shockstop seatpost for him to try out. what are the chances this goes through TSA without being taken? #bikesky any thoughts or relevant experience out there?

the triple whammy of terrible bike parking:
wave rack (hate it)
too close to the sidewalk
not actually at my destination, home depot, but rather all the way over at the police station. why doesn’t home depot have a place for bikes to park?!

5. Kid: “We should have biking class as an elective.” Me: “oh yeah? Say more.” Kid: “well, not everyone can buy a car when they grow up and we should still know how to get around on our bikes because it’s fun and you learn a lot when you go around to new places” 🚲❤️well.. I’m sold!❤️🚲

i got to #volunteerbybike again today using my @ternbicycles.com HSD. this time with A Cleaner Alki to do a community cleanup in my neighborhood. filled up a few bags and hauled in a tire. the collective impact is great to see!

i have (mostly) finished the assembly on a bike i’ve been dreaming of for a few years. yesterday i added the shockstop suspension seatpost and stem. i’ll need to do some fine tuning, but i can already say these were excellent choices! i’m not racing anymore and need to be kinder to my body.

A lengthy line of cars waited to drop off their recycling items. I was able to ride past them and properly dispose of these @graeters.bsky.social coolers (thanks for the ice cream, Mom) and a good bit of documents needing shredding! #cargobikelife

more bike commuting, fewer sick days….sounds like something to spread around
A Finnish 🇫🇮 study highlights that commuting by bicycle significantly reduces sickness absence among municipal employees.

Active cyclists, covering over 30 km weekly, had an 8–18% lower risk of sickness absences and averaged 4.5 fewer sick days annually than passive commuters.
Study confirms the benefits of commuting by bicycle in particular in reducing sickness absences | Työterveyslaitos

on my ride to work this morning, my front wheel hit a patch of ice and i hit the deck. not good.
but on my ride home, i got to experience a portion of the new bike path along seatttle’s waterfront. i’ll skip the cynicism about its design (which is all valid) and just say it was quite nice.

this is going to be fantastic! not having to ride side-by-side with semi-trucks is a welcome improvement.
Soon bikes and trucks will have their own pathways along East Marginal Way. Project is advancing nicely from South to North

thank goodness this is finally open! my commute to work just improved a wee bit….and i’ll happily take it!
The northbound separated bike lane along Elliott Way quietly opened without fanfare.

And given how long it took after the initial opening of Elliott Way, I'm not sure any fanfare is deserved.

I believe someone has made this for KC Metro routes, anyone know if there’s a tutorial out there?
Finally saw one IRL last night. Was a gift that someone got for Christmas.

Seems like so many cafes should have these.

walking out of the u-district light rail station, i noticed this. i’m thinking @typewriteralley.bsky.social can help me understand what is required of the public space in order to get the building rights. doesn’t seem like much that’s genuinely useful to the public.

i have no kids and have found my short tail cargo bike is the only way i’ll go to costco anymore. (front door parking) it’s perfect for scooping up a side table that was put out at the curb. can haul heavy loads up the hills in seattle for work. and can be parked upright to save space in my home.

the Pedaling Relief Project uses volunteers on bikes to deliver groceries from the food bank to clients at their homes. i love the way we’re using bikes as “last mile delivery” to help our neighbors.

i rather enjoy the walk from seatac terminal to the light rail station. after several hours on a plane, it’s so nice to move for a bit.
