The Paris agreement is not perfect but don’t write it off
Despite limits of multilateralism the world would be much worse off without the historic climate accord

obrigado a você!

Beautiful and powerful thread. I wish all the diplomats would be required to take this trip into a Floresta Amazônica to understand wtf they are doing in Belém.

Just in time for #COP30, a useful roundup by experts on progress made over the last decade on the Paris Agreement, article by article. Interesting that there is no discussion of #Article6

Just in time for #COP30: my analysis is of what's wrong with global climate policy and what to do about it.
Global Climate Policy Is Broken
Fixating on emissions won’t decarbonize the world’s economy.

It's well past time to get rid of all non-permanent offsets (and this DEFINITELY includes nature based "solutions")

The False Promise of Carbon Offsets
It’s time to retire an ineffective tactic to fight climate change.

As a person from the Global North, I say that we have passed it to convey urgency and as a justification for more and faster action. But that's just me.

'Memba all that research & reporting on how carbon offsets are, well, bullshit? Well, the EU NDC just dropped and, yep, offsets are in there. Resurrected from the dead after being excised from the EU-ETS.

The internet is so great today 😍

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social has already raised the bar for other politicians’ claims about “addressing affordability”. ✊

Not a constituent, but wish you had endorsed him too, Danny.

And it feels so gooooooood

Nice @CBCNews assessment of where we are, 10 years on from the Paris Agreement, with some points from @greenprofgreen.bsky.social, myself & others www.cbc.ca/news/climate...
How the world changed in the decade since the Paris climate agreement | CBC Climate Change News
In 2015, nearly 200 countries adopted the Paris Agreement, the first global pact to fight climate change. Here's a comparison of then and now — in terms of the state of the climate, the way we live an...

Noted! I get that it's a form of insurance, but it's a VERY grim one. Instead of developed countries just giving out finance for mitigation and adaptation, they are financializing risk. Also, these bets will become increasingly risky...and then what?

They bet against and if they bet correctly (ie no disaster), they get payments. If they bet incorrectly, Jamaica gets the money.

Like I knew these existed but when you stop to think about it it’s ghoulish

betting on climate disaster as ESG investing. cool cool

Next time I am in NYC, let's hang! I would love to trade seam ripping stories lol.

Woot! Look at us -- communicating with each other, amplifying each others' work and pulling the oars in the same direction 💪

Dis me. (Plus the frantic night before effort to sew, glue, bedazzle, safety pin, and perform whatever other magic-making is required)

US Gov't is shut down but @noaa.gov still toiling away at destroying decades of multilateral cooperation and ocean ecosystems in one fell swoop.

Folks, this is really, *really* bad.
