Geoengineering and deep sea mining are technological and planetary frontiers that are on the cusp of being exploited by private firms, without consensus and approval from states. Once the genie is out of the bottle, it will be open season on both frontiers. This is deeply wrong and frightening.

There's a whole chapter of my book, Existential Politics, that explains how GHG accounting works and the fundamental conceptual problems with measuring GHGs at the firm level. This change is a drop in the bucket in addressing the issues w carbon accounting. 1/
