Earth scientist focusing on wind waves, currents and a few other things.

Geology 37%
Environmental science 31%
6 February 1944 | A transport of 700 Italian Jews that had been arrested in Milan & Verona arrived at Auschwitz. During the selection 97 men & 31 women were registered in the camp. 572 people were murdered in a gas chamber.

One of them was Clotilde Nissim. She was 79 years old.

This is not the outcome I was hoping for: ODYSEA was one of the non selected missions I worked on and promises really new measurements (ocean currents + winds)

Congrats to the selected teams

NASA Selects Two Earth System Explorers Missions
Two next-generation satellite missions announced Thursday will help NASA better understand Earth and improve capabilities to foresee environmental events and mitigate disasters. “NASA uses the unique vantage point of space to study our home planet to deliver life-saving data into the hands of disaster response and decision-makers every day for the benefit of all, while also informing future exploration across our solar system,” said Nicky Fox, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters in Washington.

Contrails (not to be confused with chemtrails) and nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) account for the majority of the climate impacts of aviation.

Abstract. The current best-estimate of the global annual mean radiative forcing (RF) attributable to contrail cirrus is thought to be 3 times larger than the RF from aviation's cumulative CO2 emission...

🤠 Discover some fun Houston weather facts during #AMS2026!

Did you know? The greatest snowfall in Houston's recorded history occurred on 14-15 February in 1895, when a total of 20 inches of snow fell in the city ❄️

Wasn't that a mighty storm? 🥶

Yes, and CFOSAT too, with a track a little to the east. odl.bzh/U9btazhA I've just discussed this event with colleages from ISMAR Venezia, and we will probably look at that more carefully over the coming months. We're not sure there is a more severe storm in the whole Med in the past 30 years.

I do not remember seeing wave heights in the Med over 8 m in a long time. SWOT gives some values up to 9 m on Jan 20, south-east of Sicily... but it is not the time and location of the maximum

Waves over 10 m (significant wave height values) in the Mediterranean ... wow ...
When it comes to climate, the Global South is the future of the Global North.

This week a cyclone hit the Med. “One in 50 yrs event” etc. The pics are immense, the damage mostly in Sicily/Calabria.

As the Global South knows well, the event was received with much silence by much Italian media.
