I disagree. The story of a (barely) closeted son of a klansman who has bounced around a bunch of different religious traditions, wrecked his family and life, then moved to Hungary to be a hired hand for an authoritarian PM could be worth exploring, but this article misses everything interesting.

Conservatives get angry at a lot of current popular culture bc it reveals that Capital pursuing maximum profit does not care about ideology and will just go with what's most profitable. They want to subordinate Capitalism to ideology without ending it. If only there were some word for this!

Tbh Kid Rock fake halftime show is a fascinating cultural moment imo. You have a political movement that has achieved tremendous power at the highest levels, and at the exact same its cultural influence has collapsed even further.

Obviously this is a lie but if it were true it would mean (at best) that they have a White House staffer who likes openly racist content and that there’s only one level of scrutiny into what gets posted to the president’s social media.
Trump has now deleted the post, with the White House now claiming, "A White House staffer erroneously made the post. It has been taken down."

Openly embracing "Birth of a Nation" level racism and promoting it as president in 2026. Nothing shocks anymore but it's truly insane how vile and evil one person can be. And how many people love it.

Took a look at the Mike Lindell for MN Governor website. Very strange flag with black cross symbol and message that is mainly whining and arguing that he should be elected governor to make up for how badly he's been treated. Strong start.

There are people who did public acts of protests that they put their names and faces to in the Soviet Union throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s. That was a far more authoritarian context than the US in 2026. It's bad but we have a long way to go down the authoritarian path to match that.

Unfortunately this has become relevant again.
The threat assessments of many random Bluesky posters seem to be higher than people actively involved in leading organized protests in places like Hungary, Turkey and Hong Kong.
