Watching folks give publishing advice on Facebook is always so interesting. Some of it is very relevant! Some of it feels like it’s coming from someone who has never been in a bookstore?

Hey Vancouver and area locals — wanna see some damn good theatre in a few weeks?

Come see Cabaret.

This is a new theatre company, doing a show filled with such passion and frank relevance.

(Not local? Share this so locals can find it!)

Hey, know who is a cool small business? @meerkatpress.bsky.social

Meerkat bought a short story of mine in 2017 — my first ever sale. Since then, they’ve supported my every win. They expressed interest in a novella from me, and 5(?) YEARS LATER, i sent them twice spent comet.

They loved it. 💫

Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

I work at a warehouse bookstore combo that is just for librarians and teachers. If we see a few teachers order a book, we bring it in. I’ve seen books go from new release to reading circle standard. Because a few people ordered it so it ended up on our shelves, and a district worker saw it.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Gonna be real vulnerable for a sec but like.

My novella is a year old next week.

And the fact that some of my closest people haven’t read it yet occasionally just guts me.

I understand. I don’t want anyone to feel forced to read my stuff, friend or no.

But fuck, it makes me sad.

Imagine being on a panel about oral storytelling and making a comment afterwards about it getting a bit ‘off topic’ with the ‘political talk’. To the trans disabled co panelist.

Lost my godfather this week. Feeling adrift. Hadn’t seen him in way too long and now we’re here.

I miss him. I missed him before and I miss him even more now.

I’ve come out of stage managing retirement to work on a production of cabaret and I missed a lot of theatre stuff… and honestly, sending out emails is one of them. I wish author emails and submissions were as easy as stage managing ones.

This thread is related to ICE in the USA, but I think this also needs to apply to the 'MapleMAGA' in Canada.

Traitors, all of them. And we need to freeze them out, or we'll be facing our own ethnic cleansing squads here 😕
Disinvite them from the tailgate. Do not go to the baby shower. Call out their bullshit on Facebook. Do not just purse your lips and nod politely.

Ostracize the living shit out of them. Leave their church potluck casserole untouched. These people are extremely vulnerable to social shame.

The best way to describe how I’m doing right now is that when my dad called me to tell me of a family member passing, he referenced how these calls will be a bit of a trend for a while.

Fantastic thread.
So let's talk about why this sucks. I am so angry and so disappointed, but I also know that a lot of people might not understand why I and my queer friends are feeling this way. Read on for an explanation 🧵(1/14)

Every once in a while I get the itch to put the stuff I know about a certain someone with 50 alternate accounts into a doc or something.

There’s stuff that I witnessed that hasn’t really come up in the conversations about them?

None of it surprising, but potentially important elements.
