This style of light doesn't really appear in animation anymore. You know it when you see it -- it's bright, hot and almost dangerous.

Our new issue explores the tricks behind it, and how one artist has revived the look for the digital age: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/dangerous-...

the winter olympics events that aren't about making a rink of people who appreciate sequin placement as horny as possible are about checking in to see if a 19 year old from the taiga doesn't die popping off a snowbound cliff for funsies

the summer olympics are about...going faster

i love catching the big air highlights cause it's the most laid back people you have ever seen, wearing baggy snowproof skater clothes, throwing themselves off a mountain at extremely high speed and doing rotations that require quick math cause how many was that? many. possibly too many for me
the olympic snowboarding events are proof that dude is a universal gender and nationality

as someone who has known many people in career nursing, the care, humanism, and attention The Pitt brings to its nursing staff is truly a remarkable benchmark for television and media. #thepitt

1. it's not?
2. what's "true" in a very obvious sense is that they're going to try their best to MAKE it true and still replace every job they can with it despite it, again, not being true
3. it then follows that the way to "think seriously" about it is to be as skeptical & hostile to it as possible
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

what i am doing on valentine's if it's not impossibly cold is going to see the nyc gladiators fight with swords in plate armor behind the met because i understand romance

i'll be there looking mysterious and inaccessible, weather permitting

i just mean in central park, but it does sound very "out back behind the fancy denny's if you want a medieval ass-kicking"

I’m not arguing with no account defending AI. My grandmother lives in an area being environmentally compromised currently by an ai data center. I remember the color of the lake before they built it and the sludge I see in it when I go to see her. Shut the fuck up about “the benefits of AI” forever.

The quality of art is not the quality of the art; if it were, art would begin and end w/photorealism. The quality of art is in the quality of the artist's observations. Some of the greatest novels have workmanlike prose; they are carried by jaw-dropping truths about human life. Or take cartooning--

worth noting that the second rich people stopped being afraid of mobs tearing them limb from limb, they stopped building libraries and opera houses and stuff and started ripping the copper wiring out of the walls of society instead

thanks to batman the animated series, something about having a charming young mayor in an overcoat and gloves doing all these noble public addresses makes me very concerned the city's about to endure supervillain attacks
