Heads up for folx playing Arc Raiders: Embark has openly stated (in an interview with GamesRadar+), that the game uses the same AI voice tech as The Finals, and the CEO has talked about using AI to generate 3D models from YouTube rips.

If you're anti-AI you should not be playing Arc Raiders!
Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.

Lil' bro's Father-In-Law: "Solar/wind energy are scams."
Also Lil bro's FIL: "We're installing so much new solar, it's a great time to be in my business!"
Me thinking to myself: "...If you claim it's a 'scam' and you're still excited about it, does that make you the mark, or the con-man? 🤔"

Installing Debian with a "guided simple" installer and it freaks out because the WPA passcode it never even asked me for is too long or too short and there's not even an option to choose what network to connect to unless you reboot in "expert" mode.
This is why Linux isn't more popular, y'all. :V

Turbo-nerded through "Creature Commandos" last night. (hope they get a second season!)
It's honestly interesting, thinking about the character "GI Robot".
A robot programmed with one purpose: To kill Nazis.
They exhibit many signs that they're self-aware/sentient... But are they, really? 🤔

I spotted this on Mastodon and I find it horrible, not least for the speed with which this has happened.

Gonna be honest: The fact that 1X's tele-operators can move Neo around so adeptly has me wondering how many other dexterity demos from other robotics companies, like Figure, are legitimately autonomous...

I guess it's worth mentioning that my grandmother had fallen into said rabbit holes on Youtube. My great-aunt introduced her to a bunch of kooks on YT, next thing you know grandma's just letting it auto-play and now she's watching "proof" of "reptilians" at the Royal Wedding. 1-?
one of the reasons I don’t really like to get into even silly sounding conspiracy theories is that the answer to “fun conspiracy or antisemitism” is almost always “antisemitism”

it is the ugly ur-conspiracy at the bottom of most of these rabbit holes
Before you start making jokes about this - the reptilian conspiracy theory is deep, rabbit hole-level antisemitism.

tfw it's been acknowledge for years that industrial work for humanoid robots is redundant* because industrial robots are often highly optimized and factories built to accomodate them, but you suggest a humanoid carrying hay bales and suddenly it's "tHeRe ArE aLrEaDy MaChInEs FoR tHaT".

Sad that Bill "billionaires should be put down like rabid dogs" Burr has voluntarily become the "circus" part of the "bread and circuses" equation.
"Hey, all these other billion-dollar companies sold out to the Saudis for blood money, so why shouldn't I?" JFC, Bill.

Gonna be honest: Not a fan of Microsoft, but I've sadly had enough "traumatic" experiences with Linux that I'm half-way convinced that Torvalds is plotting to turn me gray.
Granted a lot of it is old "trauma", like trying to repurpose old laptops... With Belkin adapters... But there's others.

I didn't know about this Signal For Help hand gesture until today. I'm quite sure that a lot of other people don't know it either (as demonstrated in this video). If you just learned it now too then it was worth posting.

RFK Jr. thinks autists can't write poetry, so:

A man with a worm in his brain,
And who has earned tremendous disdain,
Speaks a whole awful lot
With a voice that is shot
To tell you the piss is just rain.

I've seen lots of folks trying to speculate off and on lately that Trump is dead and they're covering it up, first that short hiatus from the public eye, then the "AI" video the White House released regarding Kirk.
Here's the thing: They WANT Trump to be a martyr, so that doesn't track. 1/

Yeah, I get it, people getting murdered is fucked up.
At the same time, it's not reasonable to expect everybody to respond equally to that event when the guy spent so much of his time and energy effectively marketing himself as a huge asshole.

Busy yesterday so I missed that Anthropic had settled. Figures. LLMs have violated thousands of copyrights; they *knew* it would kill them if it went to trial. Anyway, the Authors Guild has some useful info here: authorsguild.org/news/what-au...

Today, Anthropic agreed to pay $1.5 billion to settle claims that it downloaded pirated books to train its AI systems—the largest U.S. copyright settlement in history. The parties in Bartz v Anthropic...
