Shout out to the Tamawashi of the NBA LeBron James for turning 41 today
Tamawashi, known as the iron man of sumo, is 39 years old and hasn’t missed a basho which means that he’s basically means that he’s been doing nonstop sumo for as long as LeBron James has been playing basketball.

Is Hakunofuji an unwieldy enough shikona that english speakers will start referring to him with a 3 letter abbreviation ala WTK, KTZ, IYM, etc?
probably not since people didn't do it with Terunofuji, but the idea of referring to ex-Hakuoho as HNF is really funny to me for some reason...

I did a #sumosketch of Tobizaru having his hair styled by the tokoyama. (This was mid-styling so not sure if it was the ginkgo (Ōichō) or topknot (chonmage)).
I prefer the pencil sketch, but this ink has nice chromo & blends well with gouache

Tamawashi is 40s goals. Legit, the last few basho & London I've been thinking a lot about how hard it is to maintain his level of skill and physical prowess at this age, and I think my motto when I hit my fourth decade in a couple months is going to be:

Fun bout! But.. have to say it, Washi is over twice Fujinokawa’s age. Washi joined sumo before Fujinokawa was born - and just as I write this, announcer just said this is the biggest age difference in a makuuchi bout in modern history!
