On the VPN question, the department is suggesting that if someone uses a VPN to sign up, then the platforms would be expected to check their posts on social media to see if they're actually based where the VPN says they are.

It's clear ABC Australia & ABC News mgmt is actively ignoring audience feedback:
• most program Twitter accounts were closed so public (and program-specific) feedback is discouraged
• complaints to the ABC are 'acknowledged' yet there's no apology or change.
• respected hosts are sacked. 😔 #ourABC?

.@simonahac.bsky.social is not a billionaire. But there are actual billionaires “crawling all over our democracy”, who won’t be curtailed by Labor’s donor reforms.

I spoke to Holmes à Court about how the changes hurt new entrants, and why that’s bad for democracy:

Simon Holmes à Court on Climate 200, donation reforms and why Kerry Stokes wields more power than he does
Labor’s electoral reforms are framed around diluting the influence of Simon Holmes à Court. But the Climate 200 founder says this will only cut the legs out from under independent challengers.

Bullying is a scourge of schools, workplaces, politics, sports clubs and many other places.

But the worst bullies I have encountered have been high ranking Liberals.

What chance do we have when the opposition leader, the alternative PM, is one of the worst culprits?

The only thing worse than the horribly biased and pathetic legislation you tried to ram through in the last dying days of your regime,is your ability to hear your electorate.
You are throwing us to the wolves, and you appear to be happy about it.

Not sure I've seen a bill more ill-thought through, and designed under the knowledge it is unworkable just because a govt is too weak to make a case against it because it is scared by FM stations and dying news.corp papers
The Social Media restriction Bill is rather absurd.

Hey we don't know what "reasonable steps" are but... you know... just work it out, oh and it will change over time so... errr... good luck with that!

New aged care fee structure passes Senate, imposing higher fees on some future residents
The changes will see some future recipients of residential and in-home care pay more for food and accommodation, saving the federal budget $12.6 billion over 11 years.

This Parliament has not passed bills addressing the homelessness and rental crises, and other cost of living issues.

But the major parties colluded this week on legislation increasing their own public funding, and making it harder for independents to be elected.

Priorities.
