Really sad to wake up to this news. Rest in power.
Shirley Raines, an activist who built an online following by documenting her efforts to give food, clothing, hygiene products and makeovers to people without a home, has died. She was particularly known for working with the homeless population on Skid Row in Los Angeles.

I want to personally thank @gluesenkampperez.house.gov for her courageous vote to fund the now-routine execution of American citizens in our streets.

I don't plan to practice self-care in 2026, but I do plan to start refusing to be on hiring/endorsement panels if they schedule the interviews back-to-back. That's almost as good, right?

Good news, bad news from tonight's CRC meeting.

Good news: City staff showed up and answered some hard questions thoughtfully and candidly.

Bad news: The transition to a new form of police oversight is probably going to take longer than even my worst prediction.

This year I spent two full weeks of my life in volunteer meetings, mostly in my local and for the Citizen Review Committee, but also for Multnomah County and Metro.

I love this city, but this has been the most grueling year of my life... well, except for next year.

Robert Taylor is the City Attorney.
Robert Butler is a guy who regularly signs up for public communication at City Council.

Celebrated two years in public service, today. It's been a wild ride, but I'm endlessly grateful to be able to do this work on behalf of Portlanders. The view isn't bad, either. 🖤

Solidarity with the workers of the Independent Police Review / AFSCME 189 and appreciation to @councilorepg.bsky.social, @councilorzimmerman.bsky.social, @councilordunphy.bsky.social, and @councilordanryan.bsky.social for not crossing the picket line, today.
Staff are picketing in front of City Hall, where their office is located.

It’s already made an impact. According to the Council President, enough councilors have refused to cross the picket line (including her) that today’s council meeting has been cancelled due to lack of quorum.

Starting a thread for every time the sunset date for the CRC/IPR gets pushed out.

Today's incident ensures that this current system will remain hearing cases until 2026 or 2027.
