Outside of the ongoing backfill (may not load some pfps, follower counts, etc.), this is looking clean 👀 we're getting real close to a full-stack alternative to @bsky.app.

If you care about an exit strategy for worst-case scenarios, help the Blacksky team by using this and reporting bugs 👇🏼
Any blacksky.app users who get banned from bsky should try logging into the staging.blacksky.community website. Looking to get feedback + identify any lingering bugs. Email support@blacksky.app with those.

Missing data from non-Blacksky hosted accounts + older posts is expected

Same as every country. When politician give focus on specific forms of migration that represent a very small part of it, present it with negative biais, and media follows blindly, people become xenophobic.

Just received a mail telling me that the data I used to book an Interrail pass 2 years ago has been compromised, including passport details. This is also why you shouldn't have to put personal details when buying a train ticket (and that company shouldn't keep the data for 2 years)

What do privileged white men have with engineers? Is it a kink I don't know about?
Just realised that serial plagiarist David McWilliams took (uncredited) his “Ireland Needs More Engineers and Fewer Lawyers” @irishtimes.com column from the Freakenomics podcast China Is Run by Engineers. America is Run by Lawyers. Ireland’s greatest living plagiarist. Chapeau.

I've been running an indie games studio for 15 years now, and it felt like a good time to boil down what I've learned into 4 pieces of advice:

I hope it's of use, not least because goddamn I forgot how long blog posts take to write.

One of the weirdest aspect of being an immigrant for me is how powerless I feel when it comes to the policies of my new country. Why would any TD care about what I want as citizen, as I can't cast a vote...

I would add that the tech sector exists outside US, and I am pretty sure some disgruntled workers would find a home in companies who aren't chasing the AI slop dream. It's just not the tech giants anymore.
The number one thing I've been hearing from people in tech lately is, basically, "How the hell am I supposed to work in this industry anymore?" Though most folks are kind of afraid to say it out loud. So I wrote about how to think about it: www.anildash.com/2026/01/05/a...

Given everything happening right now, I updated this article with options for weather apps, web forms, and translation services — along with some tweaks to existing categories.

I hope it helps your transition off US tech!
Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!

I woke up in the new year to discover that some guy on here had saved photos I took on New Year’s Eve and used Grok to remove my clothes. I know this because he showed me.

Y a aucune surprise à voir X / Grok / l'IA générative avoir des pratiques pédocriminelles puisque ce sont des outils fascistes conçus pour le fascisme et donc pour renforcer les violences sexistes, sexuelles et sur les enfants.
