It's not Chinese New Year. Even in Chinese characters, it's Lunar New Year 農曆新年。

South Korea and Vietnam (amongst other ESEA communities) celebrate it.

Just saying whilst the fire horse is waiting at the gates to gallop in. 🐎 🔥

Christmas decorations packed away before 12th night. Out came the Lunar New Year decorations.

Once it stops drizzling, I'll re-hang the red lanterns outside the house.

Canvassing in the cold is quite chilly. Looking forward to warmer weather.

Meanwhile, we are having our 1st exec meeting for CESEA Lib Dems next week.

Hope that 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ will bring better things. 🙏

Happy new year to all as we try to get back into work mode, nose to the grind.

While we merrily celebrate Christmas, we should also think of those who don't or can't or won't.

Because not everyone can or do or will for various reasons.

Canvassing with my election partner over the past few weekends has been mostly very rewarding. Learned quite a lot from the fabulous Jaime Calder, who is also our new LP chair.

Yesterday, Labour asked the Conservatives on West Sussex County Council whether they want another (sixth) year in charge.

Today, the Conservatives said yes.

Elections shouldn't be cancelled at the whim of the people up for re-election.

Is it politically in irrecorrect to call oneself a British Hong Konger? As a Lib Dem, I feel liberated enough to call myself that.

I stand with all who had to run away from their own countries due to transnational repression, war and those facing the loss of human rights.

As per Dr Al Pinkerton, MP, said, the support for SEND in Surrey is abysmal. Let's start from schools. Many lack EHCP support for SEND children from the county council. Just so you know, Surrey County Council is currently a Tory majority, lead by Tim Oliver, OBE.

The whole point of having a free press (at least in theory) is to hold the govt accountable.

GovHK has made clear repeatedly that it believes the role of the free press in Hong Kong is mainly to be a govt megaphone and promote the govt's interests exclusively.

So.
"A free society cannot exist without a media that speaks the truth." laments Apple Daily reader & court watcher Ms Chan, saying that with the loss of Apple Daily, nobody is monitoring society, adding that maybe the Tai Po fire could have been avoided if Apple Daily still existed.

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.
