The boat was not "bound for the US" any more than a 5-year-old riding a tricycle in Virginia is "bound for" Tempe. No reasonable person would believe it's the appropriate vehicle for the task, and the claim is easily discarded.

I'm old enough to remember when presidents didn't just get to put their names on willy nilly. It required public discourse and congressional approval in most cases. We've strayed so far the path I'm not sure we'll find our way back.

This is an important truth: the bigotry and hate coming out of the shadows is the result of bigoted and hateful people who now feel they can be strident about, and proud of, their views. It's seen as relief by generations of folks who have been raised using these words at home or amongst themselves.
As childish as it sounds, they voted for him because they want to be able to call people "ret@rds" and "f@ggots" and the N word without pushback. That's it. That's why they voted for him.
