Don't necessarily agree with the conclusion but interesting thread on some overlooked aspects of new EU fiscal rules interpretation by the EU commission.
Because it fears a change of the EU fiscal rules, the Commission is resorting to a very far-reaching interpretation of the rules to make room for much more defense spending. This is a shortsighted mistake because it risks accidentally killing the rules altogether at the worst moment.

Party currently polling at ~5% holding the entire EU to ransom once again
Forget the Maastricht Treaty's 3%/GDP deficit limit.. in negotiations to reform EU's Stability & Growth Pact, Germany is pushing for deficit levels of 1%

.@c_lindner will be too young to know, but this was Germany's position in the original negotiations setting up the SGP: in 1997!
