Not many celebrity deaths really get to me but Bob Uecker was special. When I was living in Milwaukee for 8 years, Ueck’s announcing could make a terrible baseball game listenable. Many weekend afternoons working outdoors or in the basement were spent listening to his stories.

So many sad conversations over the past couple of weeks about the future of diversity in science. If we lose programs to promote diversity, science will be worse off for it.

We found that a mAb targeting the N-terminus can trigger partial opening, perhaps mimicking a co-receptor interaction.

With all this talk about cutting the NIH, might I remind everyone that the entire NIH budget is less than 5% of the DoD budget.
The NIH is so efficient that they already rely upon volunteer labor to do grant review. And they are not even allowed to buy grant reviewers coffee.

Always a pleasure to join @kavehmd.bsky.social, especially when it's to talk shit about lying grifters who are out to destroy public health and add to their already sizable body counts.
Also, because my mood is increasingly pessimistic and miserable, I talk about H5N1 and its pandemic potential.

After my observation that limited numbers of HSV and PRV virions transmit from axons, I was lucky enough to start my own lab at Montana State University. As we got going, I became increasingly obsessed with the timing of virion transmission from axons.
