Interesting thread
I would like to articulate one of the BIGGEST misconceptions about cat breed genetics by talking about the NEBELUNG!

An extremely rare breed with only SIX(6) in the whole US, and no breeders, yet one that thousands of folk online are convinced they own.

Your cat is NOT any breed, and that's okay.

I’ve not talked about the LLM bubble on here yet, as mostly I discuss technical rather than economic issues, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about quite a bit. Especially while reading Carlota Perez’s Technological Revolutions and Financial Capital. Here are some thoughts.

LRT and this—lots of good writing on the subject of Ruin, lately. I wonder why! Probably good reasons, surely. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/19/o...

I wrote this with so much love. Through his biography, his own words & the music of those who remember him, I invite us once again to think critically about what decolonisation means through the life of a man who lived and died for it. Long live Amílcar Cabral.

One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. This Spanish Moon Moth (Graellsia isabellae) caught in the lamplight outside a hostel where we were staying in a dark pine forest in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees. Moons before, as a caterpillar it would have somehow found substance in miserly pine needles

I'm in Suzhou to present our work on MultiBLiMP, Friday @ 11:45 in the Multilinguality session (A301)!

Come check it out if your interested in multilingual linguistic evaluation of LLMs (there will be parse trees on the slides! There's still use for syntactic structure!)

My story “Death and the Gorgon” was voted best novella of 2024 by the readers of Asimov’s SF. You can read it online at the link below.

I also have a new novella in the Nov 2025 issue of Asimov’s, “Spare Parts for the Mind”, and they have an excerpt from that on their web site.

This workshop will initiate with people from Mexico, Latin America and Europe to strengthen the ties of stop motion and collaboration and, in exchange, education will be provided for free for one Mexican / Latinamerican student for the first ten years also.
Guillermo del Toro, Netflix, and Gobelins have teamed to open a stop-motion studio in Paris. The endeavor shares a kindred spirit with Mexico's El Taller del Chucho, also co-founded by del Toro, and will honor stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson.

Let's say I want to make a ranked list of "Illiad" heroes.

If I use the recorded 1 vs. 1 duels and the Chess ELO rating system, I get this result.

Is there an alternative method that accounts for the data being censored (ie, in most duels the loser no longer appears in the data).
