Spooky Doorway doesn't use gen AI. I actually don't know a single dev who does. All the problems in The Séance of Blake Manor were handcrafted by me.
We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.

performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Bellara, absolutely.
Today's Dragon Age Poll: You can (read as MUST) bring one of these elves to the real world for a whole day. Who are you spending the day with? (And no, you can't choose Solas.)

A - Zevran
B - Fenris
C - Sera
D - Bellara

Let me run the Bond franchise and I’ll blow him up at the end of every movie. Maybe several times within each movie if it feels right. He’ll be back the next movie (or scene) and nobody will talk about it, but man are we gonna explode that guy a LOT.

We talk about this in writing circles, how you never know who will be writing in 20 years and who won't. It's very rarely the most talented writers. There is something more that you need than raw talent. This business is more about raw determination and ability to get back up after being hit a lot

Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

I know many new writers worry about how readers will receive their work. That’s a valid concern! That said, two things:

1. This gig is only worth it if you write what YOU want.

2. Some will hate your stuff, but some will like it. Your readers. They’re awesome. Write for them.

As of this morning, it is imperative that the Democratic caucus in the senate remove Schumer as Minority Leader, Durbin as minority whip and Cortez Masto as Vice Chair of Outreach.

Replace them today with Van Hollen, Murphy and Merkley. Or anyone else who actually knows how to lead and discipline.

If it’s 10 November, it must be... yes, of course: the 55th anniversary of Sacheen Littlefeather being crowned Miss American Vampire by Regis Philbin as part of a promotion for American TV show Dark Shadows (before she went on to be more famous for turning down Marlon Brando’s Oscar…)

Have R senators? (Like me?) Call Schumer’s office to tell him you will never donate to another D senate campaign again as long as he’s Senate leader. Tell him this deal is a shameful joke and a betrayal.

(202) 224-6542
I just did this and if nothing else it was cathartic. I said I would make it my life’s mission to make sure there’s a primary challenger for any D involved in this deal, it’s fucking embarrassing.
So, listen, call Schumer’s office no matter where you live, no matter if you’re registered to vote. Leave a voicemail that says if Senate Dems cave without an ACA premiums fix, you will never vote for or donate to another Senate Democrat as long as he is Leader

The Senate exists for the same reason that the ACA doesn't have a public option: it was negotiated to placate the necessary votes. Slave states were nervous about being beholden to public will so we massively over-elevated state representation. www.law.cornell.edu/constitution...

Writing is the fun part!

There is literally no reason to write if you hate it.
Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.
